Abbreviated Background:

Cassie comes from a huge family of men. Her mother died when she was 10 and she was raised by her father, John Dutton. In addition to John, Cassie has 8 (count 'em 8) brothers. Standing at a mere 5'2", Cassie is dwarfed by everyone in her family, the shortest of her brothers being 6'4" and her father standing at an impressive 6'7". This earned her some hated nicknames: Short Stack, Short Stuff, Short Round, Munchkin, Wee One, Little Bit and others. Though she hates the nicknames, she and her family are extremely close and all save one are in law enforcement. Her father, now a sitcom writer, is a retired DEA agent.

Cassie loved school and was quite good at her studies. She skipped a few grades and graduated early. She attended UCLA and earned a double degree in Chemistry and Criminal Psychology in four years.
